Horoscopes be damned! Just for fun, the daily horoscope is part of my breakfast reading, usually triggering a skeptical laugh as my wife and I compare notes. “Watch out,” I’ll say to her, “Your boss might be a grouch today.” But we never take it seriously.

But today has been the day. The horoscope warned me the planets were somehow out of alignment, horribly unlike an eclipse — and I needed to be careful. Nevertheless, i rushed to my computer to start the day. After all, my colleague and I are kicking off a big webinar next week that requires social media posts to get out, emails to write, a long list of administrative tasks. And, the slide deck still requires new content and a lot of editing.

Yesterday was a fun day. The TomTom festival in town, with thousands of people, kicked off with dynamite meetings on technology and AI. I rejoiced at emerging from my post-covid cocoon to meet old friends and scores of new contacts. My pocket was full of skillfully designed cards with a QR code to promote the webinar. It felt exhilarating to learn new ideas and open new doors.

But damn! This morning, through some quirk, the QR code on the cards didn’t work! What the heck (or hell)?

After confronting that news, I generated a revised QR code and set out to edit the many social media promo pieces that contained the QR code. Then the characters on the screen started to jump around as if some invisible genie was controlling the mouse. And clicking the keyboard sent me to a different line of text than I had been working on. Is some sort of the universe’s dark matter in control? But I pushed on, finally editing all the promo material.

Time to take a break.

The new monitor Amazon delivered yesterday sits ready to be opened on the floor of the office. OK. Some physical activity would feel good. Carefully cut the tape. It’s a nice 24-inch screen lying flat in the box, with the display stand in pieces waiting to be assembled — a simple process. But wait, where are the five screws required? Sift, open bags, turn the box and shake…no screws. Oh crap!

Should I go to support for the display company and find ways to get them to send me screws or return to Amazon. Easy decision: rebox, file to return and order another display. Yeah. what about that horoscope?

OK. Enough. You know about my day. You also know complaining is not my schtick. I try to be upbeat and spread good cheer. But there are those days. Do I believe in the horoscope? Nope, but still will be reading it everyday.

The webinar is coming up on April 24 and needs my attention. And if you want to learn more about how to apply AI, Here’s the link:

Everything will go smoothly that day.
